It doesn't matter, they can submit her in whatever category they want. The doors are open to both lead and supporting. It will now depend on the box office and the audience reaction.

Do you think there's any possibility of Gaga being submitted to the Lead Actress category? As far as I know, Olivia Colman also had a supporting role in "The Favourite", but that didn't stop them from submitting her and eventualy making her win the Oscar for Best Actress. Is that possible in this case? Because despite Gaga's screentime and importance in the film (which is clearly supporting), the film's marketing is clearly treating Gaga as a co-lead.

Not really, because she isn't the main focus in that one hour. I bet only 30 minutes of that hour is really Lee centered.

A member from ATRL who yesterday saw JFAD, says that Gaga is only in like 1 hour of the 2h18 movie.

By the way, all points out at Gaga's role being severely pared down for some reason than originally planned. Gaga probably accepted the role, because she was supposed to be co-led, but got relegated to a supporting role in the final cuts. Maybe that's why she's releasing LG7 in the middle of JFAD's rollout. It seems like something has happened and she is kind of disappointed with where the film may have went after the edits and is trying to simply make the most out of it and simultaneously have her own music.

We want her realistically-only win to be for a lead role, and not for a supporting one.

The point is that Gaga (unlike Cate or Jessica), is not a full-time actress, and she has only one role every 3 years. Gaga CANNOT waste her little chances in even getting a supporting actress nomination/win. She needs to fully invest her once-in-a-3years role into a lead actress category. Otherwise, she will never get a lead actress Oscar.

From Goldderby: Frankly, I would much rather Gaga lose/be snubbed in Lead Actress category than to win in Supporting Actress. She is too early in her film career to be labeled as a supporting actress Oscar winner and it would be almost impossible for her to ever get a Lead Actress Oscar if she had an acting Oscar anyway.
