sharecropping was a direct product of slavery's abolition. it wound up where people (mostly black people/former slaves) were pretty much locked right back into slavery/servitude because the landowners locked them down in 'leases' in which the people would tend to the land, crops, fields, etc. in exchange for pennies on the dollar of the profit returned
it wound up with the workers in insurmountable debt because they weren't getting enough money but would have to buy tools and products from the landowner. the landowner knew they couldn't afford it so they 'loaned' the money to them as long as they paid it back, but they never made enough to pay it back
so obviously comparing a cute dress to sharecropping because it has flowers is a bit insensitive
