I think if EVERY song's AI / score was reviewed, we'd find ~50% songs' performances directly impacted. In 2020, we have more access to metrics like callout scores/stan culture to discuss Pop than prior. Gaga/Katy/Taylor are still sending Pop songs to Pop Radio just in the 2010s. Callouts might be used to identify hits by unknowns, but otherwise Radio is likely influenced by labels, a theme across EVERY platform. The most played artists have the highest potential return (new = more room to grow audience > more sales).

If the constant spamming of Dua led to a spike in subsequent singles, pure sales, etc., there'd be signs of organic interest; but, it hasn't, so how has she actually succeeded in the US? After a stalled Radio environ-ment in '20 let DSN be inescapable, she's STILL yet to grab another Top 10, despite 2 big pushes (BMH, Levitating) targeting the same sound/audience (+more for Levitating [Remix]).

Mediocre BB200 sales + inflated #2, #13, #20 (after 3 tries) on BB100 would be seen as a flop for Gaga (ARTPOP had better results); yet, FN is up for 6 Grammys, etc. because... it has 9 more MC points than Chromatica?

Yes. This is an industry first and foremost, led by labels and executives who pull the strings from way behind the curtains of any performance fans get to see. Enjoy the music and the entertainment, but "it's not that deep" and we're still just consumers of yet another product, even if those who sell it are fun to watch/follow.

Which is why I'm surprised people bring up Katy to make it seem as though Dua WON'T head down a similar trajectory? EVERY Pop act has 1+ era when GP loses interest / label moves on to newer, more lucrative assets. At her peak, Katy was as prevalent on Radio, YT, TV, but unlike Dua, she had amassed huge hits off her first 3 LPs, incl. 9 #1 singles prior to underwhelming (Witness).

Streaming era makes these comparisons unfair. At Gaga's peak, artists weren't able to debut on BB100 based on the power of their fanbases' streaming (at no incremental cost). Her streak of Top 10s from Just Dance > You&I  was incredible considering the combo of sales, Radio, etc. over time they needed.

With streaming, all singles from TFM>ARTPOP would've gone Top 10 on album week. To count 34+35 (released w/ album 1 week after lead) in the same context as Marry The Night (easy Top 10 as track 1, but released 6 months later) is . 

The "single" has also evolved significantly. Whereas albums 08>13 had 3-5, streaming-era artists release 2-3. TUN had 3 and (so far) Positions 2; all 5 before, or on, album release week. I wish BB would at least try to re-define a single/set limits (i.e., UK); this is sloppy, but would reduce impact of album bombs and make BB100 a Singles Chart:

• Require points from min # of platforms to qualify (Physical Sales, Digital Sales, Audio Streams, Video Streams, Radio) for BB100.
• Require designation of 1 single (as lead) / 1 (as feature) per tracking week.
• Down-weight any additional entries; max 3 as lead / 2 as featured.
• Require points for a min of 2 weeks for a song to qualify (avg. for debut week).
