The first Joker earned around $250M in its opening worldwide weekend. This is $100M less. Not good. I see this struggling to reach $400M at the box office when it's all said and done. What a shame.

But I think since Covid, people are going less and less to cinemas no?

$140M doesn’t include the domestic numbers

At least it'll give us the little boost we need towards 100M monthly listeners.

Nop. 140M doesn't seem to be including US

As for the sequel, so far worldwide looks better than domestic at $140 million, with a now lower-projected $55M-$60M at 4,000 U.S. theaters with all the tricks of Imax and PLF screens. The original domestic forecast was at $70M+ when it hit three-week tracking.

The $140M number IS including the domestic figures.

Industry is cautious after mixed reception, final projections being 50M-60M US weekend & 80M-85M 6-day opening Overseas, for a 130M-145M Global Debut.

85+60=145

And inflation tbh It's kinda crazy to pay for a regular ticket 13-16 euros when 10 years ago the exact same ticket cost 8 euros. I won't talk about some special screenings at 18-20 euros. Isn't it a bit too much honestly ?

DWAS (6) surpasses Y&I (5) with weeks spent in the Top 10. next week ties Telephone, Alejandro, & Shallow

Telephone only spending 7 weeks top 10 yet outselling most of Rihanna’s #1s?

A receipt most pleasing to @Zak:peacega:

COVID absolutely crushed the movie business. It will never be the same, especially with films now dropping on streaming mere weeks after release. It's super challenging to make a billion dollars anymore.

I mean before covid you had easily 4-6 movies crossing 1 billion / per year.

Only 8 movies crossed 1 billion dollars in the last 5 years

Yeah, and only two this year (and I don't see any others reaching that. Maybe the Mufasa Lion King prequel?).

I pointed this out and some khia user said Venom 2 crossed the 1 billion BO during covid. Ofc it did duh! It's not about the virus that decimated the industry. It's how the streaming services now obtain newly-released movies far faster than ever so people just wait at home and not go to the cinema.

If the movie is good people still go like it was before covid.

Top 5 Movies Of 2024:

1. Inside Out 2 did $1,690,680,379 on a 200 million dollars budget

2. Deadpool and Wolverine did $1,326,129,593 on a 200 million dollar budget

3.Despicable Me 4 did $954,140,415 on a 100 million dollar budget

4. Dune Part 2 did $711,844,358 on a 190 million budget  and

5. Godzilla x Kong did  $567,650,016 on a 135 million budget and Godzilla x Kong is considered a soft win.

I know most of them are family movies but Deadpool and Wolverine is rated R too and if Joker being R rated is an excuse for lower box office; first they shouldn’t have spent 200 million dollars on the movie and second first movie did 1 billion dollars on a 55 million dollars budget.

Anything below 600 million dollars is plain failure. Studio gets approximately 50% of the box office and even less in China and advertising budget is the same as budget generally.

It very much did not tho.

Joker 1 had the benefit of capturing the zeitgeist in the biggest box office year in history. It also had the major pluses of low expectations and a relatively small budget. JFAD has a ballooned budget and sky high expectations despite being a musical movie that cuts out half the scenes of its most famous star.

That's Life!

In terms of the Grace Randolph rotten review, she gave a fresh score to Megalopolis, a film universally rejected by critics and audiences alike. She also changes hating and loving House of Gucci depending on the context in which she's discussing it. She also routinely predicts superhero garbage to win Oscars and Emmys every time they get a pity nom, or acts floored that they don't get nominated at all. She has a decent following online, and she posts fun, inoffensive content, but let's not pretend this is Roger Ebert.

Megalopolis only has 10% less on rotten than JFAD, it's at 50%...
