The real issue of Dua, aside from this new music being not it for this album in general, it's the fact that she has always been forced into people throat rather than having a more organic success, there was a period Spotify autoplay was trying to make me play Houdini at every cost for months and I never surrender, I think the reason of these underwhelming numbers are in function of that in first.

Y’all will truly never learn

Dua (like Rihanna before ANTI) never had a fanbase and her success is carried with longevity (again like Rihanna )

ANTI opened with “only” 170K (less than Joanne debut) despite Rih having already 10+ #1s in the US :cm:

So based on your logic with Dua (cause she had a massive era with FN) Rih should’ve opened with huge numbers (cause she had already 10+ #1s before)

the reality is just that Dua is for now a GP artists with huge smash hits ala Rihanna before ANTI :cm:

We will see in the long run if RO can manage longevity :cm:

a reminder that longevity >>>> frontloaded debut :cm:

RO debut is underwhelming on Spotify though

Rihanna’s third album debuted with 162k copies first week, and at that point it was her biggest opening, clearly showing that her star power was increasing with every album release.  Dua is predicted to debut with 50k at best, an obvious decline from her previous era :cm:

Rihanna’s third album had 5 top 10 hits. Dua has zero :cm:

She’s not even Katy Perry and you’re comparing her to Rihanna :cm:

and Rih had only 1 album #1 before ANTI despite her massive smashes :cm:

Also Dua is NOT predicted to debut with 50K at best :cm:

Dua’s new album is meh. A couple of great songs, basically the singles are fine to me, the rest is kinda uneventful. No wonder she’s not doing well.

You’re right. It might be even lower since her streaming units are supposed to be between 18k and 28k :cm:

Here I was calling it her Witness era when it might just be her Smile :cm:

Dua debuted with 15M streams and Katy debuted with 8M streams. It’s not that far fetched :cm:

Rihanna’s album sales increased while Dua’s are decreasing from FN….the mental gymnastics some of y’all make to still make this type of comparison is mind boggling :laughga:

hell even Rihanna’s lukewarm LMU debuted at #1…like who are we kidding here? Please stop and just admit she’s more like a Katy Perry and NOTHING like a Rihanna

edit: which is fine by the way, Katy Perry had a massive career but didn’t come close to emulating Rihanna…idk I just worry about Dua’s longevity. She needs to switch it up with the next release

This. Rihanna was and is a major star with real star power. Dua is simply not that girl.

"Insert any Indie Artist" is the new Rihanna because like Rihanna they never had strong US debut before their 8th album

The GP haven’t dropped Dua - people are obsessed with her new relationship and magazine covers. But they also need performances and actual promo not just painting with trixie mattel or hanging out with that annoying Meghan trainor GBF

But I’ve been told over and over how performances and promo have no impact on music consumption anymore? As always, the criticisms launched at Gaga are illogical and hypocritical.

Joanne was a flop because, even though the industry transitioned to streaming by 2016, Gaga’s traditional rollout should’ve made up for the total lack of support / presence on playlists. Chromatica was a flop because, even though a global pandemic halted traditional album promo, she had 3 songs on TTH and streaming giants like Elton John on the album.

Radical Optimism by Dua Lipa - who has the largest streaming presence playlist support - is definitely not a flop, though. Its just mismanagement and lack of promo, despite slots at things like the Grammys and BRITs already this year.
