And fifteen is one of her songs :ohhh:

but 13 is a lot more strongly associated with the Taylor brand atp

either way my theory is probably just batsh*t crazy so it doesn't matter :icant:

people on the internet always want to argue in extremes :rip:

That taylor record didn't earn anything above 75 on mc, nor is it awfull. It is pretty obvious that critics are afraid of Tay's massive fanbase (and I don't blame them), since even her own earlier better albums didn't get the critical recognition that MIDnights did. (I say this as someone that enjoyed the album, but also sees it as one of the weaker records of her discography)

It's also interesting that this creates a sort of loop between a popstars commercial success and critical acclaim: they take it out on popstars that have smaller fanbases (sam smith, katy etc.) and it really creates this loop where (extended) commercial success begets critical acclaim.

Pitchfork gave 1.6 to a lyrical masterpiece while giving 7.0 to midNights...I used to be an avid reader of album reviews, but I gave up after midNights ended up being acclaimed. It's one of the worst albums I've ever heard. There's no way an album with such cringe-inducing lyrics can get acclaimed without massive checks. Maybe some critics are simply afraid of being bullied by her rabid fanbase.

Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a sexy baby
And I'm a monster on the hill

I don't start sh!t, but I can tell you how it ends
Don't get sad, get even
So on the weekends
I don't dress for friends
Lately, I've been dressin' for revenge

Sweet like honey, karma is a cat
Purring in my lap 'cause it loves me
Flexing like a goddamn acrobat
Me and karma vibe like that

Baby boy, I think I've been too good of a girl (Too good of a girl)
Did all the extra credit, then got graded on a curve

or maybe because, and the end of the day, we're talking about pop music and not a poem competition

There is no way an album with such atrocious lyrics deserves positive reviews. Some of the those lyrics put Katy's infamous "plastic bag" line to shame.
