I mean, musical and Gaga are not exactly the addition that please the comic boys but let's hope the liddos and girls will show up

You have a point, but Gaga was able to make HoG a hit, so I think we've learned never to underestimate her :tea:

both BH & Elvis were submitted as Drama, just b/c there will be musical aspects in the film doesn’t automatically equate to “Musical/Comedy” placement, plus its far better recognition as a whole competing in Drama to the Academy voting bodies alike

What's BH? :shark:

kinda embarrasing counting dwyw on artpop totals tbh

Because... the streams have magically disappeared :ohhh:

She just deleted the songs, the streams are still real. It's as if the sales of people who threw the physical CD of ARTPOP away, was no longer county, that would be ridiculous.

Someone was saying that joker fàd will be same as Sweeney Tod but i dont want that, love that film and its dark & violent but random singing breakouts is not what we want, we want musical numbers like asib not them suddenly talking in rhymes and notes.

There were some reports saying it will have musical elements but nothing being compared to ASIB.

I feel like people who are expecting ASIB kind of musical will be disappointed

early reports said that it will be like asib kind of musical and now grace Randolph said that there is going to be music therapy which tells me that There going to be proper songs not like them speaking-singining in random scenes.

Although i think the musical aspect of the film will be minimal i’m not expecting 15 songs like asib maybe 6-7 at max.

I mean Joker1 was probably one of the biggest movie sensations, making 1B gloablly as a R-rated crime drama with a budget of 55M. It is almost a given that the sequel will drop in boxoffice compared to the first movie no matter how well-made and critically acclaimed the sequel might be. Talking about critical acclaims, Joker1 was actually a mixed-69% on Rottentomatoes and 59 on MC, so it is not a difficut shredhold for Joker2 to pass and in fact I believe it will.

Also if we look at the boxoffice performance for "true musicals", the ceiling is inherently low: Mamma Mia! grossed a total of 690M globally and is already the biggest "musical", below that we have La La Land (470M), The Greatest Showman (430M), Mamma Mia 2 (400M) and Chicago (300M)  - all of them are considered great success.

In terms of "musical drama", well, Bohemian Rhapsody (910M globally) is leading with a huge gap. A Star Is Born is at 2nd place with 430M. They are really close at domestic-both collected ~220M, and it is the global appeal of Queen that drove the insane demands in overseas markets. With Joker1 being a global thing (3:7 domestic overseas split), I believe Joker2 will do well in overseas as well.

In conclusion, here is what I think a decent reception for Joker2 would be:

75% on Rottentomatoes, 65-70 on Metacritics

200M domestic  + 400M overseas = 600M globally. A 40% drop from the unprecedent success of the first movie is not a bad look at all.

Even if it end up underperforming let's say it land within the 400-500M range it would still be a success against a 100M budget (no official number yet but this is what it looks like) and a competitive awards season vehicle.

Some of y'all are OGHs subconsciously.. like DWUW sold 1M+ Digital Downloads, did those disappear?? That those should not be counted in her download sales?? :arguega:

Besides, DWUW is available for streaming in some playlists/countries

Hmm but joker 2 being a musical is a great decision imo

If they went by first film’s formula the sequel definitely would have been panned, although expecting universal acclaim for a violent polarising film is reach as well, it won't be Everyone ’s cup of tea, 75%RT will be great if it even reaches success of part 1.
