I think what Todd Philps is trying to do here is following Martin Scorsese's path in the 70s.

Joker is obviously a tribute to Taxi Driver (1976) and they both have Robert De Niro. And after Taxi Driver Martin made New York, New York (1977) starring Liza and Robert (again). The film was a jazzy musical about two sometimes paranoid and chaotic individuals (sounds familiar?) And we all know Liza is one of the biggest inspirations of Gaga and Gaga sings the song New York, New York for multiple times...

Umm, are you sure- it was widely regarded that Joker is tribute to King of Comedy.

New york, New york was Critically panned (haven't seen it though)

Listening to Joanne in full with headphones. Such an underrated gem. Sure it's not her best work ever, but I'm glad it exists. It's still got a great vocal performance and something different from her. :kiss:

As for the instrumentals? Great gowns. Beautiful gowns. The way we were robbed of a 10x better album just because InterFad had to hire Ms. BloodClot to water it down and turn everything into easy listening soft electro beats (mixed with annoying high pitched sounds, looking at PI) instead of the more organic sound Mark Ronson is known for. :arguega:

See what happens when Gaga and Ronson work together without that fad producer from the mid 2010s? Yes. It's called Shallow. :oscar:

Todd Phillips has only 1 universally acclaimed film in his filmography, i hope he doubles his number with Joker : Folie à duex
