Honesty, from trailers the movie seemed very American and straighted for me.

I usually hate action movies but i enjoyed it quite a lot tbh

I actually have TGM rated as my favorite movie of the year.

I truly thought the cinematography, sound, score were so strong. The whole third act was really incredible….in case you’re curious about my top 10 I’ll post that below

Maybe, I should give it a watch. But do I need to watch original to enjoy it?

 

Edit: I haven't seen all the movies in your top 10 but I did enjoyed the one I saw. Except X, cause I watch pearl before and that one felt like let down to me

Ummm you don’t NEED to watch the original persay but I would suggest it cause the emotional moments in the 3rd act will hit way harder if you do but everything will be spelt out for you if you don’t  so it’s not mandatory viewing

The original TG is on Netflix available for streaming if you’re located in the US

Maverick is a well crafted technical masterpiece that far exceeded the original w the most minimal CGI, one of the few movies that actually takes you away in theaters, into the experience, especially the third act. heck even the beach scene ft IAW was a perfectly executed homage to the og that wasn't overboard nor seem too "cheesy", its the reason why the film was a summer phenomenon, grossing 1M+ for over 75 weeks, Top 10 in the BO for over 20 weeks, and now firmly holding its position as a Top 3/2 BP contender

not jumping steps, but if Maverick continues to over perform w the guilds (SAG, DGA, PGA) and manages to get nab a ABL nomination Oscar morning (Director, Actor), that would put HMH in an extremely good position even if LMU/Naatu Naatu wins GG/CC
