I think it's a mixture of songs you listened to during the year and some similar songs

Label submits a bunch of songs and depending on your listening pattern, the algorithm picks from that pool of submitted songs. It's not an exact science we are privy to

No, these are still curated (usually) but positions get personalized based on listening behaviors I guess (these never make sense for me tho)
